Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia, etymology meaning split-mind, is characterized by its positive and negative symptoms. Positive does not mean good, it just means added on symptoms that the individual would not usually feel since they are additional. These symptoms include delusions, which are fixed, false beliefs. Hallucinations which are altered perceptions of reality. Also disorganized speech or word salad. Below, I have depicted these positive symptoms. Negative symptoms of schizophrenia are more of a reduction of symptoms like flat affect, reduced speech and low motivation or hygiene. There are 5 known types of schizophrenia. For all types, you are required to have at least some positive and negative symptoms but not necessarily all.
