Latoya Ruby Frazier is an admirable African American photographer. Not only is she an advocate for societal issues with her voice but she’s also an advocate through her photographs. Frazier was born in Braddock, Pennsylvania where she grew up in her Grandmother’s house within one of the poorest neighborhoods. Since she was young she had a passion for the arts but at the age of 16 her love was directed towards photography. She began to take photos of her friends, family and everyday life. In her craft, as a visual artist her goal through the photographs she takes is to highlight the devastation of the areas that surround her. She highlighted infrastructure problems, health crises, etc. She has also worked with unions(ex.United Auto Workers Union) to bring light to their situations and support their protests.
