FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL

PROJECT TITLE

Are We Truly Who We Think We Are?

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

I wanted to use this project to identify who we truly are as people, and how that is different from how other people perceive us. The goal is to see who of the participants is truly connected to who they are as a person, and this person would have the most same answers of what they said about themselves versus what five other people said about them. Many people act differently with different people, and put on a façade instead of truly being themselves, and this is my opportunity to find out which of my friends is really the most honest about who they are as a person. The theme is self-reflection, but with a twist of comparison to what the world also thinks of you, and answering the question: do we perceive ourselves the same way that other perceive us? Some issues that may arise is that people are not fully truthful about the answers they give about themselves, or what they say about their friends, to help with this all answers will be anonymous. A technical issue I’m worried about is how the reflection will look on a person and the best way to achieve the most coverage of words on the participants body. One last issue I’m hoping to avoid is uncomfortableness being a studio, it can be very nerve wracking to be center stage and the sole participant in a photo, so I’m hoping that the exercise will be interesting enough that I will be able to find enough volunteers to explore who they truly think they are. I’m having all the participants fill out a google form with five words that they feel characterize them well. Then they will send the form to five other friends who will also fill it out, on a transparent projector paper I will write all the words people wrote, different color for the self-reported words verses the friends words to see how they compare in accuracy.
