Earth is the cradle of humanity, but humanity was not meant to be swaddled in the cradle forever. Furthermore, humankind has proven itself a poor steward to the cradle it finds itself in. Rampant pollution, war, urban development, violence, and bureaucracy have permanently scarred the face of the Earth. My envisioning of the future is somewhat radical, however, with the technology and the power available to us as a species, I believe it is absolutely possible, even if the task would be beyond herculean.

There is, within our reach, a vast multitude of lands and soils, undeveloped and lifeless. To many, this would seem to be impractical, and in many ways, they would be correct. However, the advantage to these lands, is that they infringe on no peoples’ rights, they destroy no animals’ habitats, and they would kill no existing life in the process of their creation. I am of course referring to our celestial neighbors, the closest being of course, our single moon. By slowly, over the course of many decades, leaving our home body, we would allow the earth to heal from its wounds, the ecology can recover to unprecedented levels of biodiversity, and we can avert a cascade of extinction level events, and preserve our planet for the rest of its natural existence.
