Alice Harpole is a postdoc in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Stony Brook University. Her research interests include high performance computing, astrophysical fluid dynamics and, as a fellow of the UK’s Software Sustainability Institute, open source software. Lone Survivor is a film which tells the true story of a US Navy SEAL team in Afghanistan in 2005. Lt. Michael Murphy from Long Island died during a heroic operation, along with all the other SEALs from the team but one. This screening is intended to complement The Murph Challenge, an annual worldwide fundraising event in honor of Lt. Murphy. Stony Brook University is an official site for the Murph Challenge.
