The Stony Brook Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) Center is accepting applications for FUNDED 2022 – 2023 Long Term Trainees through 5/15/22 !

Tai Chi for Health Workshops
SB Trauma Center’s next series begins the week of May 3. Workshops are free on Zoom, registration required. Classes are offered 2xs/week, 60 mins, for 8 weeks. Principles & movements of Tai Chi help older adults improve balance & reduce fall risk. Tai chi is also helpful for medical conditions including; low bone density, breast cancer side effects, heart disease/failure, hypertension, Parkinson’s disease, sleep problems, & stroke. Methamphetamines, MSM and HIV
This webinar is a supplement to the National Core Curriculum recent work on Stimulants and their Impact on Brain and Behavior: Best Practices and Approaches for Effective Treatment and Recovery. This training focuses on MSM (men who have sex with men) and the connection with HIV and methamphetamines. It presents epidemiology, reasons why methamphetamine use is prevalent in the MSM community and the effects of methamphetamines on HIV progression.

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) in NYS
In this 60-minute webinar, four learning objectives will be met: 1) Review PrEP efficacy and PrEP uptake, 2) Describe updates to NYS PrEP guidelines regarding same day initiation, dosing options, and TAF/FTC vs. TDF/FTC for PrEP, 3) Review evidence for PEP and guidelines for use, 4) Provide a practical, primary care clinician friendly approach to incorporating HIV prevention, including PrEP delivery into a sex-positive approach to care.

Provost’s Lecture Series will host Makoto Fujita on Friday, April 29
Makoto Fujita introduced the concept of “metal-directed self-assembly” to supramolecular chemistry, creating building blocks from transition metal groups and organic molecules that self-assemble into large, stable cyclic and three-dimensional structures. He will present his lecture entitled “Coordination Self-Assembly: From Origins to the Latest Advances” at 4:00 pm, Wang Center Theatre. Prof. Fujita is the inaugural recipient of The Ojima Distinguished Lectureship Award in Chemistry.

David Wald is a seismologist with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in Golden, Colorado, and is on the Geophysics Faculty at the Colorado School of Mines.
