Virtual Tai Chi for Health
SB Trauma Center’s next series begins the week of Feb 14. Workshops are free on Zoom, registration required. Classes are offered 2xs/week, 60 mins, for 8 weeks. Principles & movements of Tai Chi help older adults improve balance & reduce fall risk. Tai chi is also helpful for medical conditions including; low bone density, breast cancer side effects, heart disease/failure, hypertension, Parkinson’s disease, sleep problems, & stroke. Classes are open to the public, refer family & friends.

Marshall R. Loeb Lecture: S. Mitra Kalita
Veteran journalist, media executive and author S. Mitra Kalita will deliver the second annual Marshall R. Loeb Lecture on 2/14, highlighting innovations in digital media and journalism. Kalita recently launched Epicenter-NYC, a newsletter to help New Yorkers get through the pandemic, and co-founded a new media company called URL Media, a network of Black and Brown-owned media organizations that share content, distribution and revenues to increase their long-term sustainability. 06. Research (Studies, Testing, etc…)Volunteers with Schizophrenia Needed for Brain Imaging Research Study at Stony Brook Medicine
We are looking for volunteers ages 18-65 with a diagnosis or symptoms of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder to participate in brain imaging research studies (PET and/or MRI) to better understand brain function. The study involves up to 3 visits in a 1-week period, confidential interviews, a physical exam with blood/urine collection and an ECG. The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) at Stony Brook University is inviting the community to attend its monthly meetings. This committee reviews and provides oversight for research that uses recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules. These types of studies can include vaccine trials and cancer research.
