We are profoundly grateful to Stony Brook alumni Gloria ‘69 and Mark ’72 Snyder for creating the Gloria and Mark Snyder Symposium for Cancer Medicine. This year’s Symposium on May 21 at the Cancer Center brought together talented investigators from Stony Brook University and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories who shared their findings in tumor progression and metastasis. These cancer aspects are responsible for approximately 90 percent of all cancer-related deaths.
Keynote addresses were given by: Dr. Patricia Steeg of the National Cancer Institute, on molecular mechanisms of metastasis; Dr. Kornelia Polyak of Harvard Medical School and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, on heterogeneity of metastasis; and Dr. Danny Welch of the University of Kansas Medical Center, on the metabolism of metastasis.
The Snyders say they are proud to support the Cancer Center, and recognize us as a leader in clinical care and research. “Mark and I understand the devastating impact cancer has on so many lives and are deeply committed to working with Stony Brook Medicine,” said Gloria. “We were glad to establish a symposium for cancer medicine to help encourage collaborations, education and discussions about new research, treatments and cures.”
