Seawolves Football Ranked 10th In Sports Network I-AA Mid-Major Top 10 Poll

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Sports Network)- After claiming a share of their first ever Northeast Conference Championship last fall, the Stony Brook Seawolves enter the 2006 campaign ranked 10th in the The Sports Network I-AA Mid-Major Top 10.

In their first year of scholarship football, the Seawolves look to defend their conference crown under first-year head coach Chuck Priore.

San Diego tops the charts as they come off an 11-1 season, and is a preseason Mid-Major No. 1 for the first time in school history. The Toreros closest competition could come from within the conference, as fellow PFL member Dayton claimed the No. 2 position.

Rounding out the top five are No. 3 Duquesne, No. 4 Albany and No. 5 Drake. Duquesne finished third in the final 2005 rankings, while Albany was unranked at the end of the season. Drake came in at No. 6 after earning the top spot in the preseason.

Closing out the Top 10 is No. 6 Central Connecticut State, No. 7 Monmouth, No. 8 Morehead State, No. 9 Marist and No. 10 Stony Brook.

The Pioneer Football League and the Northeast Conference placed four teams in the poll, while Duquesne and Marist represented the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

The Sports Network I-AA Mid-Major Top 10 poll includes the 21 programs of the MAAC, NEC, and Pioneer Leagues, which play at a non-scholarship or limited scholarship level. An updated poll, which is based on the votes of selected media members and I-AA mid-major Sports Information Directors, will be announced each Monday during the regular season. The team voted first in the final I-AA mid-major poll will be the recipient of The Sports Network Cup.
