Death of a President: Tragedy at UAlbany

Link

In case you don’t want to click on the link, Kermit Hall, the President of the University at Albany died yesterday while swimming off the coast of North Carolina.

This is stunning; I never met Dr. Hall, but I can see some of the results of what he’s done for Albany, as they’ve become much more of a presence in recent years. An urban university set in the state capital, Albany might best be known for their criminal justice and government programs, but they’re much larger than that. They’ve made enormous strides in the past few years, and their basketball team even gained some measure of fame last season, representing the America East conference in the NCAA Tournament (and losing badly to UConn in the first round).

My condolences to Dr. Hall’s family and friends, and to the entire UAlbany community.
