For my presentation, I decided to research one of my favorite film director’s, Stanley Kubrick.

Stanley Kubrick is typically known for his iconic thrillers such as The Shining and A Clockwork Orange as well as his science fiction masterpiece, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Something many people don’t realize about Kubrick however, were his humble beginnings as a young photojournalist in his hometown of New York City. Starting in 1945 as a 17 year old native Bronx resident, Kubrick began working as a photographer for Look magazine, a now defunct general-interest magazine that focused more on photography than written content. For 4 years, young Stanley Kubrick worked as a photographer and his work really captured the essence of life in post-WWII New York City.

Before researching him for my presentation, I had only seen a select few of Kubrick’s works (Some of which I have included in the Google Drive link below) and I really enjoyed digging deeper into the work that he captured in his brief 4 years of photojournalism. I feel that digging into his work has given me a new appreciation for the genius that was Stanley Kubrick.
