6. Conclusions

From early 7th century to middle 8th century, Chang An, the capital and center of the Tang Empire, spread its special and exquisite culture to the East Asian area, specifically Korea and Japan, in almost every aspect.

Its success can be measured by studying its powerful influence onto other cultures. The Chang An fashion culture deeply influenced the Unified Silla Dynasty fashion culture. The way noblewomen, officials, and the King dressed in Chang An and the Unified Silla Dynasty are all evidence of this. The incorporation of Chang An clothing into the Unified Silla society was possible because of the shared understanding and acceptance of Confucius’ teachings and the theory of the five elements.

The balance and meaningfullness behind Tang Dynasty architecture was one of the many things brought into Japan during China’s golden age. Japan’s capital during the Nara period was built to be a replica of Chang’an. The symmetry in its rectangular shape, as well as the upturned multi-eaved roofs were all an example of the importance of balance and flow of chi, which was brought over to Japan. Japan internalized Chang’an’s influence, and adapted it to suit the culture and beliefs of its own people.

The traditional Chinese characters and Wen Yan were spread from Chang An to nearly all East Asian countries, especially Korea and Japan. After Silla-Tang war finishing, the Silla-Korea accepts the imperial Chinese tributary system and begins to use Chinese characters as the official character. The Japanese government in the same period sends a lot of Japanese missions to Tang China to learn and take back the books and Chinese language. The Chinese language then begins to be popular in East Asia.

Go is the essence of ancient Chinese wisdom, which combines the three most important part of the Chang An culture from what our groups mention before, the ritual (禮) from clothes, the mean and balance (中庸) from architecture, and the intelligence (智) from the Chinese language. These three aspects construct and breed one of the most important things in Confucious concept: Jun Zi. Jun Zi should be modest, steady and intelligent. Even though the Chang An city and even Tang dynasty had been destroyed over thousand years, the Confucian spirit and culture are still influencing all East Asian country.
