Week 10 : 4/1

Shadowing

I currently shadow Ming/LuLu and Yun Shi/David during my mentoring hours in Main, and I shadow David and Helen during my TLL mentoring hours. I actually really liked being able to switch to a whole different set of mentors half way through the semester. As my shadowing time drew to an end with the first batch, the Senior Consultants seemed to have grown sick of redundant teaching and seeing my face over and over again on a weekly basis. I found certain Senior Consultants that I really enjoy working with, as they are always reaching out to teach me new things. These particular ones are ones that I look to for example when I have to step up and be a Senior Consultant myself. So far, a lot of my shadowing shifts are still redundant, but I am put at the front of the desk to simulate being a Senior Consultant for that shift.

Class

In class today, we took a nice tour of the ESS SINC Site and the Innovation Lab. I’m glad that we stopped by the Innovation Lab because I have heard so many good things about it during my years here and have yet to actually enter the lab and see what they offer. The resources that are offered are really amazing, and I think I would like to submit a 3D design to make a cool project before I graduate. Later, we had a fun session learning about Blackboard from Jennifer Jaiswal, the specialist. Because as Senior Consultants, we will be able to manage the courses, edit content and take on a more leader-like role among the regular consultants. It was a cool experience to see how my professors are able to create discussion threads, assignments and announcements for classes as big as 500 students. This class was one of the more enlightening classes so far, as I’ve become more inclined to explore more about the innovation lab as well as Blackboard conduct.
