The Senior Consultant Internship is officially over as of today. It has been an eventful, and mildly stressful, semester being an intern. I went in without really knowing why I decided to apply for the internship, with a lot of apprehension over the internship class, my future co-workers, the workload, and the road to uncovering all the mysteries of TLT. The first few weeks were admittedly rocky. It felt like there were so many requirements for a position that all my other friends, the current senior cons, were completely having a good time with.
It turns out that the class did require quite some effort, and that one must be dedicated to the work in order for the experience to be worth it. The coursework was not hefty, but there was time commitment, shadowing hours, and a lot of information to ingrain in my head that I did not have any inkling about previously. Thus, the semester was quite hectic due to the necessity of balancing my regular shift hours, school work, the internship and my health. I learned a plethora of new information that not only enhanced my position as a Student Consultant, but also enveloped me into the position more, making me more and more passionate about my job and what I do to service other users on campus.
I learned about service, technological, time management and mentoring skills, all of which are not only applicable to the job, but also important to my future integration into adulthood. I think the most valuable lesson we as an intern class were able to take away was the importance of working in a team, as communication in the job field is key in the act of providing customer service care to those in need.
I look forward to what my remaining years at TLT as a Senior Consultant will be, as it is a step into the unknown future.
