How to Raid (Habbo at least..)

There is a page on www.nigrapedia.com , titled “How to raid”. It has quite the simple list of tasks you must preform and keep in mind in order to perform a Habbo Hotel Raid. Rule number 1? Remember your identity: a nigra. As part of the nigra community, you must never act out of line, always support your brothers in their tasks, stick up and look out for another, especially from modfags, create orderly, and admirable, havoc wherever you run, and lastly, do everything for the lulz. I mean, what better way to have fun, than to mess with a bunch of stuck up, more serious than they need to be over the Internet, crowd behind a screen with a big group of friends who share the same humor? Heck, if I had the power, and could get away with the consequences, I would even do it IRL.

Scratch that. I actually have done it in real life. It’s a little something you could call: “bullying”, or “making fun of”, or “messing with others for the pure self satisfaction of laughing at their expense and feeling superior”. Yes, to coin this type of Internet nonsense as “bullying” is extreme. But as one who has bullied and has been bullied (admit it, one or the other has been applied to you before) I feel like the principles are just the same. The bully does all these shenanigans to piss off the other party and to feel better about him/herself. The people behind these recent raids are riding on the coattails of the original raiders, who participated in the Great Habbo Raid of 2006, trying to stand for the old justice of fighting against the racist nature of Habbo. But in reality, these raiders are just performing these raids to be a part of the “cool” group on Habbo and to mess with young users.

Now, for a little background, and research on my part, because I have never used Habbo before. Habbo Hotel is a social networking site where people can create individualized avatars and live a fictional life in a fictional community with others from around the world. It had the intentions of any social site, to allow people, particularly teenagers, to connect. Nothing too special. The Habbo raids though, were indeed outrageuos. The very first raid in July of 2006 was started by Anonymous, an online network of activists and hactivists, who took note of the racially discriminating conduct of the Habbo moderators. The moderators, or “mods”, took the liberty to ban, without reason, darker skinned avatars. Thus began this online war started by Anonymous, all dressed as a “nigra”, “a stalwart bronze-skinned man who will NOT be kept down in his quest against racism, ignorance and the deadliest enemy of all… AIDS”, as coined by www.nigrapedia.com, who inundated different “rooms” on the site, forming swastikas, blockading areas and messing with other avatars. The idea was to overload Habbo with anonymous and mischievous black avatars, wait to be banned by the mods, and then make a point about the blatant racism. At the same time, they blocked hangout areas, like the pool, to prevent others from contracting AIDs, something ridiculously frustrating for the active users then. This coined the catchphrase for the raids: “Pool’s closed”.

The current generation of raiders, as https://encyclopediadramatica.es oh-so-generously defines as newfags, are “the cancer that is killing /b/”, or the random board on 4chan, where Anonymous grew from. These people do their Internet trolling for the sake of trolling. True, as stated earlier, in order to be a raider, you should be doing the things you do for the lulz, or fun, but you still need a purpose. Anonymous rose to the occasion, to their fame, because they wanted to be heard, felt that they should be heard and in the end, were heard and recognized. I watched a YouTube video of a 2013 raid where phrases like these came from the very “nigras”: “GET BLACK AFRO NGRS”, “HITLER DID NOTHING WRONG! HE VISITS 9GAG EVERYDAY”, “CUT JEWS 4 HITLER”, “WHERE THE HELL MY KOOLAID”(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TDgAfQJRYY). Of course any words said in this fashion, especially during a hotel raid, are just pure nonsense, with no meaning behind them. And not to mention, conversation on Habbo is carried at lightning speed; you say one thing, and your word box is already gone and replaced by another. But I feel that the “trolling” is excessive. I admit, I did like this one particular post by an avatar “bro this is my first timee im having soo much fun!!!!!” So I guess there are some kids out there who still appreciate these raids. Or that could have just been some sarcastic comment made by some old fart in the basement of his or her home.

But all in all, I don’t suggest you partake in these particular raids, as they are so terribly chaotic, that you’d have to take a step back to even form a coherent, intellectual thought. If you want to partake in any online movement, choose a philosophically inductive one that has the strength to open your perspective about the world in even the slightest. Raid but don’t harm. Do but don’t overdo.
