Andrea Arreguin

4th Year Medical Student (MD/PhD)

Andrea earned a B.A. in Biology with a specialization in Neurobiology from Boston University before matriculating into Stony Brook University School of Medicine’s Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP). For her dissertation, she investigated the role of the protein dystrophin in oligodendrocyte development and successfully defended her thesis in March 2023.

Outside the lab, Andrea enjoys running and both playing and watching sports. She is also passionate about community service, volunteering at Stony Brook Health Outreach and Medical Education (SB HOME), a student-run free clinic serving the underinsured in Suffolk County. Additionally, she mentors aspiring pre-medical and pre-doctoral students through campus and national organizations.

Andrea will be pursuing ophthalmology at the University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
