3rd Year Genetics Graduate Student
Maryam graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor’s in Biology from SBU, specializing in developmental genetics and joined the Biochemistry and Cellular Biology Master’s Program in Fall 2019. From there, she transitioned into the PhD Program in Genetics in Fall 2020. During her master’s training, Maryam worked in David Matus’s lab to study the transcriptional regulators of cell migration, proliferation, and differentiation in the sex myoblast cells of C. elegans. Joining the Colognato lab has given Maryam the opportunity to continue her passion of learning more about development. Maryam hopes to uncover the effect of metformin on developmental myelination.
Outside of lab, Minnie loves to watch anime, play video games, do nail art, try new foods, and serve masala chai with desserts to guests and her loved ones. She also loves to get called by her nickname, Minnie.
