Tonight, the trough will continue to move eastward away from the northeast US and the cold front will therefore pass through Stony Brook. Lows tonight in Stony Brook. will drop sharply to around 40F as a result with clear skies, northwesterly flow, and no more precipitation expected. Tomorrow will see clear skies and northwesterly continuing with high pressure moving in, bringing a high of around 51F.

This will allow for high pressure at the surface to dominate the weather at Stony Brook for the next few days, bringing clear skies during this time. Tonight’s temperatures will drop down to around 32F and winds will be from the north. This trend will continue on Sunday as flow shifts to the west, bringing warmer air to Stony Brook and allowing highs to rise to around 52F.

The high pressure that has been driving weather in Stony Brook the last few days will move offshore overnight as the trough deepens and moves east with the frontal system, pushing the high pressure offshore. This will result in clouds increasing and winds becoming more southwesterly in Stony Brook as the low temperature drops to around 40F. On Friday the frontal system will bring about 0.03 inches of rain to Stony Brook starting in the afternoon. The Friday high temperature will be around 47F and winds will shift to being from the southeast.

This will result in clear skies and a more northerly flow for Stony Brook, bringing tonight’s low down to around 25F. High pressure will continue to build into Stony Brook on Sunday as the 500 hPa ridge moves eastward into Ontario, with flow becoming more northwesterly and the high reaching around 37F. This weather pattern will continue until Monday when another longwave trough and frontal system will begin to approach the area.
