Vision Statement
For our project with the Career Center, our goal is to create a database that allows us to effectively maintain the relationship between members and keep track of all clients. Through this database, we hope to manage faculty and student groups by being able to add/remove members at any time. Additionally, we hope to keep track of statistics and be able to categorize each faculty by college or each student by a group. This is important because maintaining strong relationships with these people are crucial to the Career Center. By implementing this, we can ensure everyone and all transactions are properly accounted for, as well as better understand the needs and preferences of all clients and members.
The impact of the database will be important because it can provide more personalized and effective services to anyone using it, thus leading to increased satisfaction. It will help us identify areas of improvement, overall improving the performance of the Career Center. With data, there will be several risks involved, including data breaches, user error, system failure, etc. To mitigate these risks, we will ensure confidentiality, attention to detail and trial & error as we are creating the database. Currently, there are no pricing constraints and we will be using free software, such as Figma to build it. Some examples of use cases would be updating member/client information, where a staff member is able to change it when necessary, for example if their contact information changes. Another use case would be adding/removing client information, where a staff member can easily add or remove new members and include their information, such as their name and number.
This project is expected to take the duration of our semester, and we will regularly update our progress through our website. The main users of our website will be the staff members responsible for maintaining the database and using it to keep track of all relationships. These users would mostly benefit by being able to easily store and retrieve information, track communications and seek any analytics that would help improve the performance. Our database will be designed to be efficient and user-friendly, so the user is not expected to have much computer skills and should be comfortable with basic standard software.
