Karma
I wanted to have more fun with this project; I’d originally planned to compose something more “artistic”, but after watching Duane Michals in action I realized that nothing I did would be more reflective of myself than something light-hearted.
I tend to overshoot when planning a design, and when I fail to complete it, I feel like I have to make up for my failure by making the next project even more complicated and gorgeous, and so the cycle continues. This realization that I have such a cycle, with the addition of my desire to keep my narrative light-hearted, led me to take inspiration from an old comic of goofy stealing a hat from himself:
I never tire of looking at this comic. It’s so simple and stupid, but that’s the appeal! I wanted to apply that ridiculousness to my own sequence.
I titled this sequence “Karma” in reference to my cycle of overshooting. However, this can be interpreted in more ways. I’ll leave that up in the air… it’s more fun that way.
