I’m Cara, I’m 24 years old, and clearly, I have always been really cool.
I was born in Vienna, Austria, but grew up in Oberlin, Ohio until I was 4, and then moved right back to Vienna. My family speaks a very eclectic mix of English and German, with random words and phrases in French, Italian, and Korean thrown in, at home.
The kindergarten I went to was English speaking, and almost all of my schooling was bilingual. This includes my BSc in Biomedical Engineering, though my MSc in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences was in German.
I have a very strange mix of hobbies that might seem quite far away from what I am studying now, but I believe they tie in quite nicely, even if they vary a lot.
- I love solving puzzles. A LOT. This one might be less strange in this field, but I think it just feels amazing when something slots into place perfectly, be it physically or just in your mind.
- Music and motion. I started dancing when I was around 4 and quit when I was around 17 due to injury, though I still do random workshops when I have time. I know how to play the piano and the guitar, though I rarely practice nowadays, so perhaps I don’t know how to play them anymore. I learned how to sing professionally for many years. This one might seem a bit strange, but music and mathematics have always been highly related, and a body in motion is fascinating.
- I’m a total nerd, but that probably surprises no-one. I like video-games, board games, nerdy puns (especially if they’re awful), and whenever I have a second of “me time”, I read.
- I also really like making lists.
