I learned the core principals of the biological sciences: some examples being exploring cell and body functions, the effects of chemicals on parts of the human body, the study of forces, and both environmental and chemical studies. Taking each of these courses have also made me grow academically, developing a range of academic skills such as research skills, critical thinking, writing, and presenting my ideas to others. These skills will give me the ability to make a successful impact on my future endeavors.

Writing Minor: I enrolled and completed a minor in Writing, which was offered by the
Program in Writing and Rhetoric. The course responsible for the creation of this professional portfolio/blogfolio project was a part of this minor.[view more]

Here is a list of courses that I took within the minor:

  • Course 1: Writing for the Health Profession
  • Course 2: Writing for Your Profession
  • Course 3: The Personal Essay
  • Course 4: Grammar and Style for Writers

The writing minor has helped me develop many versatile, effective skills that will come in handy for me later on in my professional advancement. I have learned how to create research documents and grant proposals, as well as how to effectively carry out my own independent research and present the information gathered. I have also learned how to create engaging narratives using sensory details that can entice readers, which can be useful when creating short, self-contained narratives or writing samples such as a cover letter or a blog. I also learned about many different literary genres, and how writing trends differ between them, which lets me choose the best writing skill set for the task. Furthermore, I learned how the development of a writer academically and professionally stems from his or her writing. Finally, I learned some of the finer points in grammar and punctuation, which will come in handy when I decide to pursue a profession that involves a substantial amount of writing.
