This post contains a collection of urban photography from Jomayra Texeira, a popular Puerto Rican urban photographer. My presentation is about how she used dark and low key aesthetics to tell the story of daily life in New York City. While her different photographs have similar underlying themes, they depict different stories of individuals in New York City at different moments in time. In order to convey these different stories, Texeira manipulates dreary weather conditions, smoke, and motion blur to illustrate different urban perspectives. As will be shown in her collection, a common accessory Jomayra Texeira captures in her photographs is an umbrella, which aids in her utilization of darker and gloomy tones to bring out a “nostalgic cinematic vibe” to her photos.
