Disparity is a project about the juxtaposition of nature and artificiality. It consists of 12 4×6 photographs on poster board. 6 photos were taken of natural objects found indoors, and 6 were taken of artificial objects outdoors. The photos were then imported into Photoshop for editing. All of the artificial objects in each photo were converted into Black & White, while all of the natural objects retained their color; this reinforces the juxtaposition between them. The photos were then mounted on poster boards, one black and one white. The poster boards are arranged back-to-back and have visually contrasting title sheets on top. This is all done to further highlight the juxtaposition in the photos.

Final Project Proposal – Update
Title: Disparity
Project Description:
For my final project, I will be exploring the juxtaposition between Nature and Artificiality by using the juxtaposition between Black & White and Color. This will be achieved by using Photoshop to create a color isolation effect. I have wanted to do color isolation at some point in this class, but was unable to use it in previous projects. Color isolation works well with the theme of this project, allowing me to make use of it effectively.
Photos will be taken in color, with black & white added using Photoshop. The photos will be of natural objects (such as plants) in artificial environments (such as a house) and vice versa. Natural objects will retain their color while artificial objects will have their color removed, creating a greater contrast between them. The viewer’s attention will be drawn to the object whose color mode does not match up with the environment it is occupying.
Outcomes:
4×6 Photographs (amount unspecified) on poster board. This is subject to change.

- Color Photography
- Photoshop Image Editing

Final Project Proposal
Title: Spot of Color
Project Description:
For my final project, I would like to further explore the juxtaposition between Black & White and Color. Rather than taking the same photo twice with different color settings, only one of each photo will be taken. The photos will primarily be in Black & White, with one significant color still present in the frame. The presence of this color will serve to draw attention to a particular subject within the photo. Subjects will not necessarily be in the center of the frame, as it will be the color rather than the framing that will draw the viewer’s attention to the subject. Other variances will also be present in each photo, such as differences in lighting and the amount of other objects in the frame.
Photos will be taken in color, and then have all but one color removed using Photoshop. Subjects will be chosen based on what color they are, objects with bright and vibrant colors are preferable. The subjects will be placed in different locations and a photo will be taken. The photo will be imported into Photoshop, where masks and color effects will be used to isolate the main color of the subject.
Project should be presented either physically or digitally against a black background. Current goal is 4×6 photographs with black table or poster board as backdrop.
This is a concept I have wanted to explore in this class, but have not been able to with the projects we have had thus far.
Outcomes:
4×6 Photographs (amount unspecified) posted on black poster board. Board to be placed on black table in the computer lab.
