Art as Social Change

Homeless. Just the thought of the term makes me uneasy. Why? How? In a world where we created currency how is it that I see a homeless human being everywhere I go? It baffles me. “The bums on the street?” No. Just homeless. Before judging them think about what went wrong in their lives. What if they did not have a choice? A voice? We’re extremely judgmental, and unaware about the problems that literally reside outside of our apartment building. Families. Begging for some spare change. Instead we’d rather pretend to ignore them by being on our cellphones.

This is the reason why I decided to create this project to spread awareness. To create a domino affect in which one human being guides, or shows the path to another for a better future. A future where we all strive, together, but one person can’t do it alone. If one is so sick of being surrounded by homeless people, give them a second chance at life. I know it’s harder than I think it is, but a better future for me is one where not one human being is struggling to make a living. I displayed this the best I could by altering the three different images where over time the number of homelessness is decreasing as people help and encourage those who are struggling to pick themselves up and start a new leaf.
