DON’T FALL: THE GAME

The Team

Derek Pereira- Leader- UI

Aril Mavinkere- Research- Logic

Brandon Wanner- Secretary- Network

The Goal

Our team seeks to gamify an exercise utilizing a balance board for rehabilitation for knee and ankle injuries. The exercise involves a patient try to maintain their balance on a board resting on a cylinder. However, there is little motivation in this exercise other than not tipping the board over. Our goal would be to create an application that reads the tilt of the board via the gyroscope in a smart phone to determine where an on screen avatar would be. The patient would have to tilt the board in order to move the avatar to avoid obstacles.

The goal is make this boring and not involved exercise more fun for patients and increase their motivation for rehabbing the injuries. This application could also be used for treatment of arthritis in the knee and ankle, as well as injuries to the nervous system that require retraining the patient how to use their legs. The Wii BalanceBoard and WiiFit has been used for this in the past, but it is less interactive as having an actual board resting on a cylinder. Our goal is to create a more interactive and immersive experience.
