A Longing Desire
There is a very particular emotion that everyone feels throughout their life. It cannot be described in a single word in the English language. Trying to describe it in words would be an injustice. However, it is beautifully captured in Conan Gray’s song, People Watching:
But I wanna feel all that love and emotion
Be that attached to the person I’m holding
Someday, I’ll be falling without caution
But for now, I’m only people watching.
Simply, the feeling is a longing desire to be loved. However, it is much deeper and more conflicting than that. Beneath those emotions, it is riddled with a dreary melancholy. Some part of you knows that love is not arriving, like a package on your doorstep. Perhaps, it is an underlying sense that you do not deserve to be loved. Maybe it is a sense that you cannot be loved.
Nonetheless, those dark subtleties are overshadowed by the immense impression of hope. It is a marvel of human emotion how someone can cling to a sliver of hope. Regardless of how minute or giant the wish is, the feeling leaves us with a boundless desire and passion for someone else to love us. When you see others in a romantic relationship, you can’t help but imagine that you were in such a position. You dream of someone staring at you with shimmering eyes, unmistakably fueled by love.
Inspiration
As mentioned previously, the driving force of this project is Conan Gray’s People Watching. The themes and motifs that protrude in his song will be interwoven throughout the project. As for visual inspiration, it will be turning towards many aspects of cinematic photography.
Although difficult to describe, cinematic photography leans towards solid, well-executed compositions and lighting, as seen in the below images. Furthermore, the colors of these photos are often rich and vivid. They often help convey certain moods and complement each other.
