Dare to Imagine

The theme for my midterm project was “global efforts to go green.” In the future I hope that nations from around the globe will be able to individually and collectively take on more environmentally friendly practices in order to protect and preserve our planet. Climate change is a big problem that our society faces. It often seems to be covered up by other issues deemed more pressing, but that doesn’t diminish the severity of global warming as an issue that needs to be addressed.

In my first image, I visually represent the environmentally conscious activity of turning off the lights. One by one the lights go out and the smoke disappears to reveal a blue sky. This is in reference to the evidence that turning off unnecessary lights can greatly diminish carbon dioxide emissions from electrical plants. The outlines of the world’s continents on the lightbulbs brings in the global aspect. If the world as a whole can reduce our use of electricity, we can decrease pollution significantly.

My second piece highlights the use of clean energy, in this case wind and solar. With widespread use of such energies, we can reduce our use of fossil fuels and the pollution that occurs as a byproduct. The flowers covering Earth’s continents represents a “beautiful” and natural world that using energy production methods such as wind turbines and solar panels can help us achieve.

My last image is a scene of a tree on a sunny day. The leaves of the tree are in the shape of Earth’s continents. The recycle sign on the trunk of the tree represents green efforts in general. The tree as a whole is a symbol of global unity. The bright, sunny day creates a mood that is cheerful and peaceful which presents the idea of global unity positively and associates the concepts with such feelings.
