Portraiture without Portraits
For this project, I shot and edited photos according to how peers in my photo course described color. Each photo is accompanied by the respective name and their statement on color.
KYLE – says that color represents diversity and variation in photography. This description drew me to a photo of my cat Calvin, since his dramatic and distinct coloring makes him unique, which in turn makes the photo unique.
RYAN – discussed how color allows you to make differentiations, and that color creates a fluidity in an image. This photo (taken of an aquarium’s manta ray tank) has color that allows movement of the water and differentiation between little waves.
SHERRY – described color as an emotional medium; you can feel moods (and even music) through photography. I think this photo has a very relaxing mood – from the coloring of the sky and deep silhouettes of palm trees, I feel like I’m sitting on the beach watching the sun set (and the music would be reggae).
