  • When I was young, I practiced my art by simply drawing. My parents would roll out a large tube of paper on the floor, and I would spend my time drawing on that and in any notebook I could get my hands on. My piece is dedicated to my earliest form of artistic practice, a celebration of the intersection between artistic study, and playing. This is a dialogue between my current self, and my younger self. By rendering my childhood figure drawing on various pieces of paper I try to relay the cozy feeling of drawing on the floor of my childhood home. In planning this piece, I actually had various pieces laid out on my home floor. Each work represents a growth in my artistic style and expression, from child, to adolescent, and now as an early adult. I find incredible importance in discipline and study when it comes to art, but to me drawing will always be a way to play.
