Project F.O.R.W.A.R.D. Initiatives

Stony Brook FORWARD is working to achieve its stated goals through several initiatives:

  • Leadership Circles (modeled after Lean In Circles)
  • Resources
  • Programming
  • Mentoring
  • Collaboration

Leadership CIRCLES

“Social gains are never handed out. They must be seized.”
– Sheryl Sandberg, author of Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead

Leadership Circles (modeled after Lean In Circles) are a supportive and committed community that offer women inspiration to achieve professional goals.  Consider a circle a platform where like-minded women meet to openly communicate wants and needs.  At Stony Brook University, the Women’s Leadership Circle meets to encourage advancement and development of one another in a safe, confidential atmosphere.

Resources

The growth and sustainability of Stony Brook FORWARD will be achieved primarily through providing resources for women across all sectors of the institution: faculty, staff, students, administrators, researchers, postdoctoral fellows and clinicians. For more information, please see the RESOURCES tab.

Programming

We have secured funding for annual Women’s Leadership Symposia in addition to other on-going events.

Collaboration

Many people and groups across campus, Long Island and New York State are involved and interested in leadership development in higher education. Conversations are taking place with the New York State ACE Women’s Network, Long Island Women’s Fund and the American Association of University Women to support our mutual goals and efforts.
