Critiques were yesterday, and I found the feedback extremely helpful.  I had been struggling with the perspective of my amended project.  I had felt that the photos were a bit pedestrian.  My concern was that the audience would not find the content engaging enough.  Loren mentioned that she had not seen images of children wearing masks, so this was a new viewpoint.  Her comments made me realize that at a subconscious level, I was shooting from a child-centric POV to begin with.  I have two more photoshoots scheduled for tomorrow, so I will be much more cognizant of subject placement to ensure I am keeping with the intentions of the project, emphasizing the children.  I think it was maybe Alex made the comment regarding the placement of the kids versus the adults.  Thank you for the feedback, everyone.

  1. I thought both ideas were very good. The photos of the families and your children were engaging for sure in my opinion. This would develop into a successful series that shows the reality of covid and how it isolates families into their family unit. The Lego idea is also intriguing and can be very successful with a good camera lens that can capture small scale scenes if available. I imagine that the result of this would probably look very childlike and humorous. Maybe try to get your kids involved too? Like playing with the legos but with gloves on? Just a thought if you wanted to head in the Lego direction.

  2. As I said in class I have noticed that there are a lot of kids and families out and about taking more walks, bike riding, etc. I think it might be interesting to incorporate the surroundings of the families and maybe the neighborhood that they belong to. I think that you might be able to incorporate legos into this type of series as well and maybe have the family building together and then also just the kids playing with legos.

  3. I love your idea of taking pictures to those families who affected by the coronavirus, it is very realistic and shows the situation right now. And you added all the captions which made a very meaningful photo album. Can’t wait to see more and more families you are going to shoot pictures.

  4. Interesting work Gillian! I really liked how you chose one family and expressed their experiences in the terrible times we are in. Coronavirus has impacted all of our lives, especially children. Their lives changed completely. Despite the mask on, it is still clear what their facial expression is through their eyes. I would suggest more pictures and capture more of their story. I would love to learn more! Overall, excellent work!

  5. the family photo looks great the tells the story very well. I also like the description for each picture. it is very touching. I can’t wait to see more pictures! its really well-documented pictures set like a film.

  6. I think this is a great idea to capture the way the virus is impacting families. Being able to focus on the family and even the children is an excellent subject that easily tells a story. I can’t wait to see a lot more photos and what kind of story you want to tell with it.
