My Bio

About Me

Hi! My name is George N. Pittas. I am a first-year Ph.D. student in Biomedical Engineering at Stony Brook University with a focus on cardiovascular research. I received my Bachelor’s in Biomedical Engineering with Departmental Honors from Stony Brook University in May 2024.

As an undergraduate, I completed my Honor’s Thesis under the mentorship of Dr. Wei Yin, which involved geometric and biomechanical analysis of abdominal aortic aneurysms to develop a prediction model for aneurysm growth. This project introduced me to physics-simulation programs including COMOSL Multiphysics, which I continue to use in lab projects.  During this time, I had planned on completing the BE/MS program to obtain my Master’s, but instead, because of this experience in the lab, I wanted to do more, so I applied and switched into the Ph.D. program, where I can continue to pursue similar projects.

While I do spend a lot of time in classes and in the lab, I still make time to pursue other personal interests. I have a large collection of board games, which I like to play with friends in my free time. I have even traveled to various tabletop conventions to meet new people who share this same interest as me. Every night, I also like to read. Currently, I am reading The Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson and already on book 3.
