Artist Statement

I consider myself a visual artist primarily working with painting in acrylic. I have had chances to try many different areas of visual art including ceramic, sculpture, printmaking, digital art, and figured I still like painting the most. I’m obsessed with different textures of objects and the associated feeling it brings to the viewers. To achieve certain effects, I did some experiments with different acrylic mediums and grounds that change the property of the paint and surface. This is also one of the reasons why I love working with acrylic paint, a relatively new material as my main medium – I have many different options to make the paint work as I wish it does.  By recreating the texture or representing the texture by various types of brushstrokes, I want to evoke unique emotions for the viewers thus feel relatable to my artwork. I believe, after all, the essence of all kinds of art is back to us as humans and how we feel, what we get out of an artwork, and even relate to our personal experience. Speaking of personal experience, I’m originally from Beijing, China. Then entering college, I finally decided to add Studio Art as my second major. The more I practice painting and the more I study art history, the more I want to develop art as a professional career.
