Leadership
I have served on the governing body of two campus club and organizations. The both were entirely student driven and organized organizations.
The first The Nontraditional Students Adult Learners Association was a club created to support students over the age of 25. I served as both secretary and treasurer of the organization. We planned off campus involvement trips to New York City, participated in on campus events and activities including Walk to End Campus Violence. We also provided support to the nontraditional student community be informing of resources, class availability, social events, support of the campus food pantry and inclusion of students’ families into campus life through support of events such as Stony Brook’s Family Weekend. the club also provided a beginning and ending semester luncheon as well as hosting presentations from Academic Advising and Commuter Student Services.
I also served as the secretary of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society. This was a also a student based social organization. The club provided a forum for student centered discussions on a range of topic in history. The organization was funded through student organized book sales and bake sales on campus. We organized off campus adventures exploring places like the culper spy trail in Setauket, ny the Tenement museum in NYC, and movie showing. One of the most exciting activities was History Hour which was held every other week. A short presentation on a topic would be given by a member of the organization, followed by intense discussions on the topic. Some topics were fun and light hearted, like Halloween, but others, such as the renaissance of conspiracy theories provoked intense discussion. The history hours allowed for constructive debate on the topic.
