Sleep Project: Deep Dream (2023)
Deep DreamĀ (2023) depicts sleep patterns found from one of my favorite marine animals, a jellyfish. Jellyfish do not have brains but researchers have recently found that even without a brain jellyfish do however sleep. When their behavior was studied, they found that not only do these brainless, spineless creatures sleep but they may even dream! Dr. Pollock sparked this project idea for me with his lecture. He showed the class a video of a jellyfish while in a sleeping state gesture eating food.
I like to relate this piece to myself because I am a very vivid dreamer. I remember most of my dreams every night and find myself day dreaming most of the day… While I am in a sleeping state, it feels like I am swaying in an ocean. I can connect to the fluid movement of a jellyfish floating away into the deep ocean, while I float away into a deep sleep…
