Shadowing Week 8 (4/7-4/11)

Today I shadowed Steven Yao because he was covering for Parth. He allowed me to delegate task and man the desk.  A woman came up with a problem about not being able to print in Campus Res computers.  We are not in charge of the campus residence SINC Sites but we tried to be as nice as possible so we footprinted it because campus residences told her to come to the Main library desk because it is considered a Pharos problem.  Then towards the end of my shadowing, I learned to archive my emails so now I have a new category in my Stony Brook Google email for SUBS and SUBBED. Archiving my email became very useful because as a senior consultant, I am suppose to keep all the SUBBED emails so I know who is suppose to be where when taking attendance. Also now my email isnt spammed with SUB and SUBBED emails.

At Help Desk with Diane, we review footprints again with advance search and just making sure when we write footprints, its as specific as possible. The website for footprints is footprints.sinc.stonybrook.edu.  Going over how to search footprint. Diane just went over a lot of information about help desk with me such as answering phones, chats and keeping calm when dealing with users.

On Wednesday when shadowing Ruhi, we went over my journal and eportfolios.  She help me a lot with e-portfolios since I was not good with anything related to creating my own web page design or things like that.  I organized my many groups on e-portfolio so now I am able to have one e-portfolio with many subtabs for ASBO, LDS and TLT.  I also took attendance and manned the desk; anticipating phone calls are the worse in my opinion.

Wednesday night Ryan came and mentor me on situations. I learned a lot because he gave me the most random situations! I learned about restarting pharos: i never knew we could unplug it if there was a problem. Then I learned about pharos and SOAP errors when printing; when there is a SOAP error, its mainly the documents fault so just double check pharos remote to make sure their ID card number matches and they still have funding and just print it out for them through pharos remote.  Ryan also taught me a bit on printers and how to properly load paper and just random situations with logging onto computer.  For example: thin clients run on virtual sinc site so sometimes when people cant log onto a thin client computer, it means that virtual sinc site has reached its quota of 250 people so the user should try using a tower computer instead.  It was a very useful review session and it was nice of him to test me and to see how ready I am.
