One Sentence:
A dating simulation of a college hula hoop club.

One Paragraph:
This is a dating simulation, similar to and inspired  by Dream Daddy, for a college hula hoop club. You play as a normal college girl named Sapphire and can romance one of two club members. There’s Maria, your friend for years who founded the hula hoop club and the only other club member Aimee, a goth girl who you’ve never met before. There are several routes and 6 possible endings to achieve (good, neutral and bad) and 2 unlock-able pictures if you can date either girl successfully. It can be replay-able and there are many choices throughout the game.

2/3 Paragraph:

Throughout the game you are faced with an array of choices from choosing which girl to talk to or choosing if you like something or not. It works like a regular dating simulation and an avant-garde dating simulation, similar to Doki-Doki Literature Club. The goal of my project was I wanted to juxtapose the ‘normal’ to the ‘weird’ (weird might be an understatement). Through this juxtaposition I want to show the difference in personalities and specifically highlight how the same game category can have two different styles.

So the ‘normal’ dating simulation is the path of Maria. She is the childhood best friend trope and her path runs like a normal dating simulation with neutral endings and a good ending. Opposite to that is Aimee’s path, where she doesn’t talk much at the beginning, but if you choose the wrong thing, you could end up dead. Aimee is the only one out of the two with a bad ending, and it’s BAD. I want this project to also bring simulations into the art world more, not necessarily dating simulations.

Midterm Project

The past 19 school shooters, have obtained guns legally. In the future, I would like to see growing legislation to change this. The Parkland Shooter, Nikolas Cruz, had bought an AR-15 even though he had shown erratic  behavior and a want to kill people. Christopher Harper-Mercer killed nine people at Umpqua Community College with 14 guns he bought legally. We also need to have legislation on how to store guns, must be locked away somewhere, or locked in a separate shed, so that kids like Jaylen Ray Fryberg can’t get their hands on their fathers gun.

From the book, “Why Kids Kill: Inside the Minds of School Shooters”,there are three types of school shooters: the traumatized shooter, the psychopathic shooter, and the psychotic shooter. It says, “The traumatized shooters—they come from dysfunctional families, poverty, abuse in the home, a number of them were sexually abused outside the home, parents are poor, kids bounce around between mom to dad to grandma, sometimes they are in and out of foster care, there is no stability. And eventually, the rage and depression build. The other two types come from essentially stable and intact families. One type is the psychopathic, someone who is narcissistic, doesn’t care about other people, no empathy, no remorse, no respect for laws and regulations or authority, they are going to do what they feel like doing. They are often sadistic, so they get a thrill over having the power over life and death. ”

It is also important to teacher kids (high schoolers, not children) and teachers about behavioral signs someone might bring a firearm to school. Such signs include talking about a ‘hypothetical’ school shooting and attack-related behavior (such as stockpiling weapons and researching other shooters).

For my final project, I chose to focus on portraiture because I am very interested in people’s emotion and the manipulation of faces in photography. This project will have four separate sections, one for each sub-series. The first two are of my two friends from home. We are all just having fun, dressing up, and in wigs. The second is of my friend Keenan at Staller Steps, just relaxing before finals. The third is of my roommate Maurinne at our elementary school in Riverhead, where we just took many pictures. The fourth is of my friend Alex while it was snowing at the train tracks.
