The Intouchables(Biography, comedy)
Actors:
François Cluzet Omar Sy Audrey Fleurot
Philippe Driss Magalie
Director:
Olivier Nakache(French Director) Éric Toledano(French Director)
Plot:
Driss, a young “delinquent” who was recently released from jail, tries to apply for unemployment benefits by asking Philippe to sign a sheet saying he tried to apply as a caretaker for him. Slowly, a strong friendship develops as Philippe starts to experience enjoyable things again. In the end, we see that they are still good friends even after the movie ends.
Technical Aspects:
The music was what showed the differences in personality and lives between the two characters. Philippe’s taste in classical music shows his relaxed life and calm nature while Driss’s taste shows his upbeat personality and his ability to light up a room.
Major themes and important Scenes:
Major themes: Friendship, Love,
Important Scenes: The most important scene was when Driss leaves because it really shows how much Philippe needed him in his life.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths: One strength that this film had was its character development and its ability to establish a proper individual character in just the first scene. Another was the perfect blend of comedy and serious tones in the story.
Weaknesses: One weakness was the time limit as I felt that there was a larger story to be told about the friendship between the two men.
Rating:
This movie was one of the best movies I have seen in a while and the contrasts between the free and joyful Driss and the firm and calm Philippe really enhanced the movie.
