Love Reflection – “One More Time” by The Helio Sequence
This song “One More Time” is about showing someone the love they deserve. In the song the singer is urging his/her lover to see that they does not want anyone else but them. The singer wants his/her lover to move past their inhibitions and fall in love and be with them completely. The song draws you in with a fluttering guitar and drum beat like the singer’s fluttering and unwavering heart. That is one of the reasons why I love this band is because of their very slow, care-free, and honestly beautiful melodies.
The repetition of the lyric “draw yourself more near to me rest your weary mind bend” coupled with the repeated almost lulling beat in the background creates a sense of calm and peace. This sense peace evokes the feeling of a warm and gratifying love that embraces you and calms you down. That is the intention the singer has for his/her lover to relax and enjoy being in love and falling in love with them. Further more, the lyric “I won’t wait for you to run down that hall with anyone” showcases a sense of urgency as the beat picks up slightly when the singer sing this part of the song. This urgency that singer has to showcase their love for their lover and to be with them fully and completely.
One part of the song that always get me is that towards the end of the song the singer constantly repeats “draw yourself more near to me….one more time”. As the singer repeats it the calm drum beat is intertwined bells as the singer voices gets dimmer and dimmer and the beat gets louder and louder. The beat represents again that lulling and comforting the love the singer has for his/her lover. As the song reaches a close that love melts with singer’s plea for their love to let go and be with them “one more time”. The song ends with a last chime with a sort of whooshing sound ending as if the wind stopped.
The Helio Sequence does a tremendous job with creating melodies that somehow take emotions such as longing and even love into charming soundtracks. Their lyrics to are tremendously powerful especially in this album “Negotiations” where this song “One More Time” comes from. This Album is great because like the title the band displays songs that range from many of the emotions that one deals or “negotiates” with in life such as anger, jealousy, and pain. Love that is described in the song “One More Time” is just on the many themes they discuss and express.
I really recommend this band because their lyrics can relate to many situations that we all face in our day to day lives. Also, this band is great for studying or needing a song to help you relax for a while and think about you day.
