Title: Fable, Date: April 2021, Dimensions: 18”x8”x6”, Medium: Ceramic

“Fable” depicts the whimsical effect of combining different characteristic animal features. I created this piece as an imaginative personification of the night forest. I was inspired by the idea that there are many animals that exist in the world which we never see, whether they are hiding in the depths of the ocean or under the cover of darkness. The symbols on the salamander’s back show how animals are often used in allegories to tell stories or teach morals. The figure of the snake emerging from the sun to the moon is meant to show that nightfall awakens a breadth of animals, including moths. As a future veterinarian, I created this piece to show the importance of considering the seemingly impossible and always being inquisitive.
