The Insignificant
I spent this summer I assume like many others spent their summers, cooped up at home and rid of almost all social interaction. Normally, I am an immense homebody. I refuse to come out of my house unless called upon. However, the past several months, I urged myself to take frequent walks. Just to make sure that my limbs are properly working and that I am getting my weekly dose of Vitamin D. I didn’t think much when I first started this. But this sudden stop gave me the opportunity to open my eyes and see something I had missed.
I’d like to ask, have you ever noticed how many types of plants are in your yard? Were you aware of those rocks next to your sidewalk? We often neglect to take notice of our surroundings. This is especially the case with the overwhelming number of stimulations we surround ourselves with today. I, like many other college students, have been consumed by my screen the majority of my university career. But when we take the time to look around, there are so many things that may come to your surprise.
For my project, I want to focus on some of my favorite “discoveries”: The random plants I found and collected. The beetles I’ve come to love. The pebbles on the side of the road. I hope you join me in observing the significance of these perhaps insignificant treasures.
