Final Project – Self-Defined: “Hammering Senses Home”

The Hammerhead Shark may have a goofy appearance to some, but don’t underestimate what this creature is capable of. It has full panoramic and binocular vision due to the positioning of its eyes and sensory organs as well as 3D electroreception, and its cerebellum enables it to have superb motor control and prey tracking, making for a predator that’s hard to escape or remain undetected against. The electroreception and sensory abilities of the shark, portrayed here by some jagged lines resembling lightning bolts zeroing in on stingrays hiding in the sand as well as distant fish (singular or in a school), sharks and rays, hence the term “ELECTROreception”, are incredibly powerful. However, it takes a large brain to process all of this information! This is why Hammerhead Sharks have one of, if not the largest brain of all sharks and have a cerebellum that makes up over 1/5th of its brain’s size- to take it all in. That’s one smart shark- no wonder it has such a large head.
