Light of Day

Camera: Iphone 7p.    Olympus U2 zoom 80

Early morning: 6:30 This photo was taken at 33rd street in NYC at 6 AM. It was an overcast day of 68 degrees, so there were large clouds on top of the building in the early morning. Many windows in New York City were already lit up at 6. The sun shines from the east and reflects on the glass of the building which makes me wonder about the story in every window.
Mid morning The weather was oppressive and the inside of the taxi was dark, so I used the flash of the film camera to capture the scene in the car and in front of the window. The accidental exposure emphasized the details inside the car and blurred the building outside the car.
The other one was taken in the mid morning, but the sun was very bright at that day. Since I only opened part of the curtains, the contrast in the room was very strong. From this photo, we can see the skyline of the city very clearly, reminding me that each of us is a small unit in the big system.

The Whitney Biennial exhibition has a lot of great art works. The large installation art was on the balcony on the third floor.  The figure in this photo holds two mirrors facing his /her face, and the light on his/her face moves as the light changes. I really liked the design and stayed there for a long time to observe the light on the sculpture.

The beach at noon is the most enjoyable moment. The mother was stepping on the waves with her daughter, the girl was helping her friend build a castle, I was recoding their moments. I make the lens zoom out so that the characters blend in with the scenery behind them, making the photo look like an oil painting.

Early afternoon

The billboard reminded me of a paper sculpture I saw in the  exhibition of ART ON PAPER. The cow in the photo also has the shadow of the artist’s painting which make me confused between the sunlight and the picture.

This picture was taken around 2 p.m..  The sun was still very bright, autumn winds blow through willows and lawns. I dimmed the lens to capture the dark green of the trees and the reflection on the leaves.

 Mid afternoon

I used my phone’s portrait feature to capture this portrait. The sunlight around 4 p.m. began to turn dark orange and set on the girl’s back in contrast to the rest of the dark part in this photo.

It was a public art project near stony brook, and I stumbled upon it while walking with a friend. This is a mailbox in a wasteland, people can drop letters into this circular sculpture and send to heaven. From the metal surface of the sculptor I could see the sky, the woods and the flash from my camera.

Early evening – dusk

This picture was also taken on the 34th street, but around 6. Compared to the morning, the skyline has become very clear and dreamlike. This is also my favorite moment of the day when the moon and sun appear in the same sky. At this time, the light can only reach the upper part of the building, dividing New York into a world of light and dark

It was very dark that night because of the rain, and the light went out before 6 p.m.. I turned off the lights in the room in order to test the flashlight, so all the light in this photo came from the flash and moon.

Evening – night

In the evening I sneaked into a small church with my friends. In the evening, the crucifixion and his three messengers seemed even lonelier. The exposure on the right is this is because  this is the last picture of  that film, but it added to the mystery of the photo by accident.
