The Brain

The brain is the control center of the body, where all our thoughts, feelings, sayings and motions are produced (Fig 1). It is in charge of keeping the body alive by instructing every part of the body on what to do [1].

The brain is, for the most part, composed of specialized cells called neurons (Fig 2). There are many different types of neurons with different functions such as receiving signals, filtering information and sending out other signals throughout the body. However, one thing they all have in common is that, in order to work properly – and even to survive – they need a constant supply of oxygenated and nutrient-rich blood.

Failure to supply this “food” would cause immediate damage to these neurons, which brings us to one of the worst enemies of the brain, the Stroke.
