Photography has changed the world as it allows for us to record history in ways that were not possible before. Prior to photography, history was told through language. However, photographers such as Jacob Riis and many photographers in Hong Kong are able to show the world truths that might not have otherwise been known. Photography also extends past professional photography using fancy cameras. Since most cellular devices today have some form of a camera, people are able to record many more moments than before. Whether it is capturing moments shared with friends, or unfair treatment of minority by the police, people are able to share their stories with the world. There is one thing to consider when looking at images. While photographs are supposed to capture what is seen at the scene, photos can also easily be digitally manipulated. Additionally, there is inherent bias when the image is captured based on how the photographer frames the scene. Therefore photography can be used to express ourselves more, but can also be used as propaganda to push certain agendas.
