My final project will be exposing vulnerability of people. The project will potentially be a self portrait series in which I shoot pictures of myself in various lighting environments. The only common thing for each picture is that the lighting will be coming from an unconventional source. This will range from common sources such as street lights at night to bright phones in a dark room, to not as common sources such as exit signs and headlights on a car. However, I still want to be able to imitate professional studio lighting. The locations in which I shoot will be selected from places that have had a large impact on my undergraduate career at Stony Brook University.
My work will draw inspiration from Brassaï and Philip-Lorca diCorcia in the way that they are both able to capture scenes from an observer’s point of view. Even though my project might be about myself, I don’t want to present the work as a self portrait series.
