Guest Speaker Dr. Marlene Behrmann

Jacob Alvear

I had the pleasure of listening and watching Dr Berman’s presentation. She discusses the neural mechanisms and neurodevelopment, she has worked with both children and adults that have neurodevelopmental disorders including autism and developmental dyslexia. She talked about the breakdown of the eye and how it works, the nerves that are connected from the eyes towards the brain, and also know a ton about the receiving parts in the brain. She then started to discuss to us the functional organization in the adult visual cortex, she went on to show us a diagram of the brain and its use of its visual cortex and what part of the brain is used for memory. My favorite part of the presentation was when she brought up the experiment with the 100 students and reconstructed their faces based on their neural recognition of their own faces and asked them to rate their new faces.
