This past week has been one of the most memorable experiences for me this semester. I had a great time bonding with the other interns and current Sr. Cons while working with them on our Roth Regatta boat. This was the first time I was able to build something together with friends since I constructed set pieces for my high school theater, so working on the boat gave me a comforting feeling of nostalgia.

I was amazed at how much went into the project, from the weeks of cardboard collecting, numerous runs to home depot, and late nights spent on the building itself. Everyone was so passionate about all aspects of the event (we even glued and painted costumes cosplaying the Last Airbender team!).

By Friday, we had an adorable looking Appa boat that really stood out at Roth Pond. Jim, Hilton, Amy, and I paddled Appa across the pond to take the victory in the first heat! We ended up sinking in the next race (which was really disgusting and cold), but that’s okay because it’s the journey, not the destination that matters. It’s a bit of a cliche, but I seriously do not need to think about how long I needed to shower to get the pond smell out…

Participating in Roth Regatta with TLT has been the single-most fun week I’ve enjoyed since coming to Stony Brook and I hope to do it again next year!
