Week 11: Frey Hall

Similar to last week’s class, we went on a tour to the one of the newly constructed building in Stony Brook University Frey Hall. First, we were introduced to the new testing center. Personally, I do not have a problem being monitor under a testing environment, but some of my classmate complained how it may add on unnecessary pressure to the students. We then walked up to the second floor, there we talked about the new “Cola” area and one of the class that is equipped with the technologies to be able to conduct distant call with another SUNY University. I was fascinated by the fact that we can have  a conference with multiple SUNY Universities all at once. And, I believe more classes should utilize this important resource to it’s full potential. Finally, we walked back down to the first floor and visited the computer lab where most Chemistry classes take place.

In my shadowing hours, I had Jane look over my Google Site for the final presentation. Then we went over some of the Intern Exam questions that I was confused about.

With Jennifer Sang during my Help Desk hours, I learned that TLT is not a on demand service. A professor called saying she is in the Chemistry SICE Site and the computer that she is using kept shutting down from time to time. Initial;y, we put in a FootPrint ticket for her. Then, she called again saying the technician did not show up to fix the issue. We consulted Tara for assistance, and was told to inform the Professor that there is nothing we as a consultant can do at the moment. It was hard for me to inform the Professor because I was not able to help her. This is definitely something that I, personally, have to work on. I need to know that we simply can not satisfy all our users. All we ca do is do everything in our power to assist them.
